OSCILLATORS

2018

An oscillator produces a periodic fluctuation between two things based on changes in energy — it often produces patterns like a sine wave or a square wave.  Clocks, computers, radios, synthesizers and watches all contain mechanical or electronic oscillators."

In Oscillators, the movement of the light pendulums determines the form of the music as their motions slowly decay into stasis or are reactivated by a participant. ‘Oscillators’ refers both to the swinging pendulums and the participants, as they are the impetus for the pendulum’s continuous regeneration. Oscillators visually and aurally emphasizes the dichotomy between the natural and the artificial -- mechanical and electrical, candle and LEDs, bell tones, and a synthesized drone.
